Front Office Medical Assistant, 408 Hours, 4 Months, 2 terms


Occupational Objective: The graduate should be able to acquire an entry-level position in a medical office as a front office medical assistant. The front office medical assistant is able to work in a variety of settings including physicians offices, medical centers, clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, ambulatory care centers, and medical billing offices. The front office medical assistant is a valuable member of the office and can function in a variety of positions.

A Front Office Assistant has a variety of responsibilities including greeting and directing patients answering telephones, updating an maintaining electronic ,medical records, obtaining insurance verification and authorization, admitting and scheduling patients processing insurance claim forms arranging for hospital admission an laboratory services patient and insurance billing medical collections accounts receivable an payable, bookkeeping and other duties that are required for efficient health care delivery and reimbursement. The medical office assisting profession has become essential to efficient medical office administration physicians, medical clinics, long term nursing facilities, insurance companies and other healthcare related businesses are looking for medical office assistants with the training and skills to help manage their day to day operations.

EQUIPMENT

The MJS School of Technology classroom is set up like a medical office. Student will have access to computers, electronic medical records, claim forms, bookkeeping, records management, appointment scheduling software, telephones.

MODULE A- 4 WEEKS -96 HOURS

During this module the student will focus on computer skills, record management, medical ethics and legal concepts, telephone and communication skills, scheduling , processing mail, authorizations, written correspondence and typing.

MODULE B - 4 WEEKS- 96 HOURS

In this module the focus is on coping with stress, medical terminology , first aid, CPR, OSHA regulations and charting.

MODULE C - 4 WEEKS- 96 HOURS

This module is based in medical office management, medical office book keeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, multi cultural awareness, utilizing resources and professional development.

MODULE D - 4 WEEKS - 120 HOURS

During this module the student will do an externship and be able to utilize the skills learned in the classroom while interacting with patients.
