Phlebotomy Program, 294 Hours, 3 months
Occupational Objective: The graduate should be able to acquire an entry-level position in Phlebotomy. This course includes the working knowledge of specimen collection procedures, techniques, specimen requirements, point of care testing. The graduate will also be familiar will the most up to date OSHA guidlelines. The graduate will have the working knowledge to take them into the work environment.
The goal of the MJS School of Technology is to provide students with a working knowledge of blood collection procedures, techniques, specimen requirements, and point of care testing. The course includes a classroom and practical experience that the graduating phlebotomist can take with them into the workplace environment. This program is open to all students who have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. No test out options are used. No distance learning is offered.
EQUIPMENT
All classrooms resemble a general medical lab setting with such equipment such as centrifuge, slides, microscopes, necessary tubes, needles and other supplies what is needed to draw blood. Supply cabinet are set up as in most labs. Student will be able to use lab requisitions on paper and use the latest computer technology.
MODULE A - 2 WEEKS - 48 HOURS
This module consists of basic anatomy and physiology, medical terminology and abbreviations and learning cardiopulmonary resuscitation. (CPR).
MODULE B - 4 WEEKS - 96 HOURS
During this module the MJS student will study the comprehensive background in theory and principles in blood collection.
MODULE C - 1 WEEK - 30 HOURS
This module will be laboratory practice in the collection of blood specimens,
MODULE D - 4 WEEKS - 120 HOURS
During this module MJS School of Technology students will participate in the on site clinical setting. This involves phlebotomy practice for those students who have successfully completed modules A, B and C.
GRADUATION
The following is a description of course requirements:
A: Quizzes: During each module there may be a quizzes. The quizzes will be multiple choice and matching and may or may not be announced. The quizzes are designed to test your comprehension of the material being covered. Quizzes will be counted for 30% of final grade.
B. Unit/Chapter: There will be Unit/Chapter tests/ The tests will be multiple choice, matching, or diagram labeling. This will be 40% of your grade.
C. Class Participation: Class participation is a very important element of the learning experience. Each student is expected to participate in class. This will 10% of final grade.
D. Scenario Exercises: Scenario exercises and hands on activities, cpr, computer simulations, customer service, medical records and patient education as well as various other clinical skills needed . This will be 10% of final grade.
E. Portfolio: Each student will be required to maintain a neat and organized portfolio. Your portfolio will be looked throughout for a grade. This will count for 10% of final grade. The portfolios should be 2 inch, three ring binder and should be organized with dividers according to the following:

CLASSES AND SCHEDULING
Day classes are Monday thru Friday; and evening classes are available Monday and Thursday. Classes begin at various times throughout the year.
TUITION
If the student has completed course work up through and including Module B and chooses to withdrawal from the program. then 50% of full program tuition will be reimbursed. (example: total program $1000, Student paid $750; withdraws during Module B - then student refunded $500);
No refunds will be given after the start of Module C.
